All children are entitled to play. Good design of public play spaces
is needed in order to make this possible and result in enhanced opportunities
for all children. It is important for children of all abilities to
be able to socialise when playing, sharing the learning experience
of meeting, interacting and compromising in the use of equipment.
There is no need to focus on impairment specific issues, rather identify
the obstacles to play for any child who might wish to access the play
space and think about ways to circumvent them. Our aim should be to
include rather than isolate any child, providing playgrounds where
children of all abilities can play side-by-side.
